The Future of Media: Everybody's a Curator?

Although the aggregation and filtering of the news is something that has traditionally been done by journalists and major media brands, tools like Storify allow anyone to perform the same kind of function, regardless of whether she’s been trained as a journalist — or even think of what she’s doing as journalism.

Gigaom.com reports that tools like Storify.com (which just released its public beta) allow regular folks to do journalism. I think it's important to note, however, that it does not replace professional journalism.

Just because a guy stops at Home Depot and gets a tool kit, doesn't make him a plumber (or at least not a professional one). Getting tools like Storify might help regular people communicate better about the things they care about, but it does not make them journalists (at least not professional ones).
